Liquid Zambia Appoints Leah Nakazwe Kooma as CEO

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has appointed Leah Nakazwe Kooma as chief executive officer of its Zambian operations, effective 1 April 2026, in a move that highlights Cassava Technologies’ continued push to strengthen its digital infrastructure footprint in Southern Africa.

Her appointment comes at a time when Zambia’s telecoms and digital services market is becoming more competitive and more complex. What was once a race around basic connectivity has expanded into a wider contest over broadband, enterprise services, data infrastructure and the digital economy. In that environment, companies need leaders who understand not only technology, but also customers, distribution and commercial growth.

Kooma brings experience across banking, telecommunications and media, three sectors that are increasingly intersecting as African markets accelerate digital adoption. Cassava Technologies said her appointment forms part of its growth strategy for Zambia and the wider region, where demand for stronger digital infrastructure continues to rise.

Her career reflects that blend of commercial and sectoral experience. She began at Barclays Bank before moving into telecommunications with Celtel, where she worked across several African markets. She later joined the founding team of Vodafone Zambia and played a key role in launching the country’s first 4G LTE network as chief sales and distribution officer. In 2017, she moved to MultiChoice Zambia as GOtv commercial general manager, before rising to chief customer officer and later managing director.

That background gives Liquid Zambia a leader with experience in market growth, customer engagement and commercial execution. Those strengths are likely to matter as the company looks to expand infrastructure while also turning investment into adoption, loyalty and revenue.

Wellington Makamure, chief executive for Sub-Saharan Africa at Cassava Technologies, said Kooma’s appointment comes at an important moment for both the Zambian business and the wider region. He said her record of delivering results would help drive Liquid Zambia’s next phase of growth.

Kooma said she was excited to join Liquid and described it as a business she had watched evolve over the years. She said her experience in sales, marketing and customer service had shaped how she understands both customers and leadership.

Her appointment also carries weight in Zambia’s broader corporate landscape. She has held several prominent leadership roles, including managing director of MultiChoice Zambia and board chair of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. She also serves on a number of boards and is a member of the Institute of Directors and Business Professional Women International.

According to the company, Kooma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Development Studies from the University of Zambia, as well as an MBA from the University of South Wales.

For Cassava Technologies, the appointment comes at a time when African digital infrastructure providers face growing pressure to scale, compete and prove long-term value. In markets such as Zambia, leadership is becoming just as important as fibre networks, towers or enterprise offerings. Liquid’s decision suggests it sees Leah Nakazwe Kooma as central to that next chapter.
