Zimbabwe is positioning itself for a tourism rebound, with plans to expand its aviation network through new domestic, regional and international flight routes from 2026.
The move is designed to make the country easier to reach and easier to explore, as demand for African travel continues to recover. Improved air connectivity is expected to support tourism, business travel and regional integration, while strengthening Zimbabwe’s appeal as a destination.
Airlines operating in the country, including Flycristal Airways, Fastjet Zimbabwe and national carrier Air Zimbabwe, are planning to increase capacity and widen route networks. The focus is on improving access to key cities and tourist centres while opening new gateways for international visitors.
Within Zimbabwe, expanded domestic flights will link major hubs such as Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. This is expected to reduce long road journeys and allow travellers to combine urban, cultural and wildlife experiences more easily within a single itinerary.
Regional connectivity is also set to improve, with stronger links to southern African cities making Zimbabwe an attractive stop for multi-country travel. Easier access from neighbouring markets is likely to support short breaks, adventure tourism and cross-border travel.
Further ahead, proposed long-haul routes could connect Zimbabwe directly to markets in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Direct international flights would reduce travel time and enhance the country’s visibility among global travellers seeking nature, culture and heritage experiences.
Improved air access is seen as central to tourism growth. Destinations such as Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park and the Zambezi Valley are expected to benefit from increased visitor numbers, supporting hotels, tour operators and local communities.
Authorities have also highlighted the importance of sustainable tourism as connectivity improves. Efforts are under way to balance growth with environmental protection and cultural preservation, ensuring tourism development remains responsible and inclusive.
With expanded flight options on the horizon, Zimbabwe is sending a clear signal to the international travel market: the country is open, accessible and ready to welcome visitors looking for authentic African experiences.
