Persistent rain brought an early end to the sixth match of the Under-19 tri-series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Old Hararians in Harare on Sunday, forcing the game to be abandoned with both teams sharing a point.
Pakistan Under-19s, who won the toss and chose to bat, were bowled out for 208 in 46.3 overs before worsening weather conditions made further play impossible.
Sameer Minhas led Pakistan’s batting effort with a composed 48 from 58 balls, striking seven boundaries. Usman Khan provided solid support, scoring 41 off 53 deliveries, including four fours and a six. The pair added 63 runs for the second wicket and briefly steadied the innings.
Ahmed Hussain contributed 37 runs, while Huzaifa Ahsan added late momentum with a lively 34 from 41 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. Despite those efforts, Pakistan struggled to build sustained partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout. Panashe Mazai was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for 32 runs in his eight overs. Leeroy Chiwaula and Shelton Mazvitorera each picked up two wickets to restrict Pakistan’s total.
The washout marked Pakistan Under-19s’ second abandoned match of the tournament, following a rain-affected fixture against Zimbabwe on 29 December.
At the end of the group stage, Pakistan finished top of the standings with six points after winning both of their matches against Afghanistan. Zimbabwe secured second place with five points from four matches, while Afghanistan ended third with one point.
Pakistan Under-19s and Zimbabwe Under-19s will now meet again in the final of the tri-series, scheduled for Tuesday, 6 January, where the two sides will have another chance to contest the title.
